This painting was painted from memories of my childhood in rural Louisiana. Every spring the cardinals would flock to our flowering crabapple tree by the edge of the piney woods. It was a colorful spectacle that was unforgettable. I painted this completely from memory, as few photos captured the vast array of beautiful scenes from down on the farm. The farm itself no longer exists—it is now an upscale area in the southern suburb of Shreveport know as Railsback Ridge. The painting was first exhibited at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum in Shreveport, Louisiana in 2022.
