"Blue Bracted Spiderworts at the Gate" 16"x20" acrylic on canvas
The ditch by our front gate filled with blue bracted spiderworts every spring. I often picked a bouquet of them for my teacher while I waited on the school bus in the morning. Then I would pick another bouquet for my grandmother when I got home. No matter how many I picked, we never ran out of the beautiful little flowers.
I loved the abundant blue flowers that covered this part of our farm when I was a child. I would pick the teacher a huge bouquet every morning while I waited for the bus! This piece was first exhibited at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum in Shreveport, Louisiana in 2022, but the memories go back to the early 1960’s. The area that was once a farm is now an upscale subdivision, and I wonder if the spiderworts still cover the edges of the roadway there.
